STAFF COULD FACE REDUNDANCY
10/11
STEPHEN Wheeler, a psychotherapist and a workplace representative for the Unite union, is concerned by the way the changes could affect staff and patients.
The NHS has previously confirmed that 13 full-time staff will be affected by the proposals.
Mr Wheeler said he was worried they would be made redundant.
He said: "My members have been asked if they would consider taking other posts if available.
"But as things stand, I see little prospect of jobs being available as the NHS is having to reduce posts rather than recruit."
And he said there was strong evidence that psychodynamic psychotherapy was effective.
He said: "The NHS is selectively quoting evidence to act as a cover for its cuts."
He also believed that cutting the therapy would put the wellbeing of patients at risk and would result in "a failure to provide an appropriate service those with complex, long-term difficulties".
