Consultation on Tier 4 Psychological Therapies
Rumour Busting

The Role of Derbyshire Voice
Some people have been reporting that Derbyshire Voice is supporting the PCT’s proposals.
I would like to correct this. Derbyshire Voice is supporting the PCT to ensure that the service receiver voice and opinions are heard and feedback given, which is their role. They are helping to ensure that we have a fair and transparent consultation.
They have not as yet provided their own feedback on the proposals, but they will do that as a stakeholder engaged in the process and they will provide that feedback based on the information that they receive from service users.
In the overview and scrutiny report there is a sentence that suggests that Derbyshire Voice have agreed the proposals. To be clear they had agreed the process and proposals for a consultation. The PCT have written to Overview and Scrutiny to clarify the position.
Ending of Therapy
It has also been suggested that therapy must finish in October for all patients receiving psychodynamic psychotherapy. We would like to make it clear that the PCT has given an undertaking that people already in receipt of psychodynamic psychotherapy and who have been assessed as needing to continue with their therapy will not have it stopped. The PCT will support whatever is clinically in the patient’s best interest.
Evidence base
The PCT has had queries about the evidence base for the draft specification. The Consultant in public health who undertook this exercise jointly with NHS Nottinghamshire County has made arrangements to put this on the NHS Derbyshire and NHS Derby web sites.

Dear Jonathan
I am writing to you to offer a full and frank apology for the misrepresentation of Derbyshire Voice’ involvement to Overview and Scrutiny regarding the Psychological Therapies Consultation.
The paragraph in question should have read that Derbyshire Voice were in support of the proposals to engage on the project and this should have been checked more thoroughly before being circulated. I can appreciate your anger and frustration at being misrepresented in this way and as such I have contacted Overview and Scrutiny to ask for a revision to the document to be made. Derbyshire Voice will make its’ own representation and is being fully involved in supporting representation of patients views as part of the Consultation and meetings have already taken place with Catherine and Nikki to ensure that this is done collaboratively.
Your views are taken seriously and will be used as part of the Consultation process. I do hope that this goes some way to address your concern and frustration as we do really appreciate your input and support.
Yours sincerely
David Garner
