Top Service Receiver Priorities for September 2010 UPDATE

11/10

As identified through the meetings Service Receiver Representatives attend.

Concerns about the delay of the opportunity to influence crisis services as a date for this workshop still hasn’t been set.

This is being looked into in a variety of meetings that Reps attend.

Still concerns about the reduction in the number of Derby City Commissioning meetings and the reduction in mental health service receiver input into this organisation.

The staff  at Derbyshire Voice are meeting with personnel from this organisation in November to resolve this issue.

Confusion about the 'Personalisation', ‘Direct Payment’ and ‘self directed support’ plans, where mental health service receivers can access a personal budget to purchase their own health and social care services.

A staff member from the Council has agreed to present to the team of Representatives to clarify some of the key points on this subject, this will take place in November.

There have been reports about poor communication with service receivers about changes to their consultant and CPN’s (community psychiatric nurse) in the Amber Valley area since the redesign of adult mental health services.

The Mental Health Trust are holding 2 consultation events in November and December and Representatives will be raising this issue at those events.

There is a perceived increase in the number of discharges of patients from mental health services since the changes to adult services.

Representatives will raise this at the project board that is in charge of the redesign work when it next meets.

It has been reported that there has been a reduction in the usage of the Derby Day Hospital, we will be asking for further information on this.

We have been assured that the number of people referred to and using this vital facility are back up to the usual numbers.

There is a lot of uncertainty about the proposed changes to Primary Care Trusts (PCT’s) and health budgets and how this may affect services, we will closely follow this process of change and report any decision through the Derbyshire Voice Magazine.

This is a situation that is changing on a regular basis.  We will be keeping on top of this issue and putting any breaking news on our website and magazine.

The threats of reduced dedicated, professional mental health support to day services such across the county such as: The Grapevine Cafe in Buxton and the Ilkeston Sport and Leisure group.

The Grapevine cafe has now closed and the Leisure group have been offered some specialised support but this hasn't actually happened yet!

National budget cut guidelines (which suggest protection to frontline services and the voluntary sector mental health providers) seem to be different from what is happening locally.
