Top Service Receiver Priorities for May 2011 - UPDATE

07/11

  • We are still concerned about “Improving Access to Psychological Therapies” (IAPT) services as we have heard that people are not really using the service in Amber Valley and Erewash areas.  If this is the case, why is take-up of the service low in these areas specifically? There is still no IAPT program running in the Western Corridor of Derbyshire (Ashbourne etc.)

Representatives are following this up at specific meetings

  • We are concerned about the delay in implementing a quality, effective and supportive Volunteering Scheme at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHNFT), this has been spoken about for many months but progress is slow.

There appears to be the potential of some funding for this scheme, Representatives are working closely with the trust to progress this.

  • There appears to be some issues on the inpatient wards with patient access to personal electronic devices such as laptops, headphones etc.

Further clarity is being sought but it remains an issue.

  • (DHNFT) are looking into ways to reduce the number of “Do Not Attends” (DNA’s) at outpatient appointments.  We are concerned that changes to the appointment system must improve the service for individuals and not just improve the targets set. We have been invited to be involved in looking at this issue.

We are awaiting feedback from the review the Trust was carrying out on this issue

  • Although we have raised concerns about patient access to mental health Advocacy at the Radbourne Unit, Derby City (which affects both City and County residents) there still seems to be problems with waiting lists for patients to access an advocate during their time in hospital.

We haven’t received any more concerns about this issue from the inpatient wards at the Radbourne Unit

  • We are getting several reports about patients in hospital being called to meetings with medical/ward staff during meal times and visiting times.  We have been told that on occasion this has resulted in patients missing meals.

Representatives are pursuing this at the appropriate meetings.

  • Due to the financial cuts being faced by the NHS, there are ongoing concerns about front line services, run by Community Mental Health Teams (such as therapy/social groups) and whether they will continue to be funded and supported by medical staff.

We are awaiting a report about a review that is due to take place. Representatives will pick this up through the meetings they attend.

  • Effective consultation with service receivers on the Redesign of the Adult Care Pathway Project still hasn’t taken place.

Staff at DV will continue to raise this with senior managers.
