Top Service Receiver Priorities for April - UPDATE 2011
06/11
We are still concerned about “Improving Access to Psychological Therapies” (IAPT) services as we have heard that people are not really using the service in Amber Valley and Erewash areas. If this is the case, why is take-up of the service low in these areas specifically?
This issue is still to be resolved but Reps are attending meetings with both buyers and providers of these services
to give the patient perspective and gather information.
There is still no IAPT program running in the Western Corridor of Derbyshire (Ashbourne etc.)
As above.
We have received a lot of feedback about the differing attitudes of staff and therefore the experience of patients, between ward 35 where reports are things are quite poor and ward 36 (of the Radbourne Unit, Derby City) where feedback is more positive.
Reps have raised these issues at the relevant meetings and action is being taken by DHNFT to address this.
Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHNFT) are looking into ways to reduce the number of “Do Not Attends” (DNA’s) at outpatient appointments. We are concerned that changes to the appointment system must improve the service for individuals and not just improve the targets set. We have been invited to be involved in looking at this issue.
On going, joint work between DV and DHNFT is taking place.
Although we have raised concerns about patient access to mental health Advocacy at the Radbourne Unit, Derby City (which affects both City and County residents) there still seems to be problems with waiting lists for patients to access an advocate during their time in hospital.
We have been in contact with the providers of this service and will continue to inform them if patients continue to raise concerns.
We are getting several reports about patients in hospital being called to meetings with medical/ward staff during meal times and visiting times. We have been told that on occasion this has resulted in patients missing meals.
This is being raised with Ward managers and medical staff at a variety of meetings.
We have been told that there was no provision for patients who were in hospital, during the recent local election and national referendum, to vote.
We have no further information about this yet
There are ongoing concerns about front line services, run by Community Mental Health Teams (such as therapy/social groups) and whether they will continue to be funded and supported by medical staff.
There is no direct response from the service providers at this time.
